Word and Letter Patterns
Students can be asked to complete the sequences of words or letters allowing them to practice identifying the pattern.
List #1 – complete the sequence:
happy/sad ; dark/light; poor/ ???
(the pairs are opposites : rich)
List #2 – find the word that does not belong :
lion/crocodile/cheetah/tiger
(the crocodile is not a mammal)
List #3 – complete the sequence:
nine4 – six3 – one3 – four4 – three?
(the numeral that follows the written number designates the number of letters in the word : 5)
List #4 – complete the sequence:
reunite – disrespect – irregular – unite – respect – ???
(the prefix is removed : regular)
List #5 – complete the sequence:
silent/listen ; race/care; dear/read; laces/???
(the pairs are anagrams: scale)
List #6 – complete the sequence:
goose/hpptf ; hand/iboe ; song/tpoh ; fly/???
(the second word is spelled like first word, but using the following letter of the alphabet : gmz)
List #7 – complete the sequence:

(the sequence represents pairs with a missing letter in the series : R)
List #8 – fill in the blanks:

(the blanks represent missing vowels: O-Y)
